Am reading The Elephant’s Rope and the Untethered Spirit – by Lynne Picard – her memoir of healing from cancer. In the book she asks a herbalist-friend in Hong Kong about joy,
” Dr. Wu, I think that since I have asked for and allowed more joy in my life it is helping me to get well. Do you think this is true?”
“Joy is extremely important; but if the joy is like a blanket, covering over old misery, it won’t help. It will only be temporary. The important part of my answer to you is to get rid of the misery in your life.”
More on old misery later.
